Memorial Day observances scheduled in numerous area communities

The United Veterans Memorial Day Parade Association will hold a parade at 9:30 a.m. Monday, going from Streicher and Lagrange streets to Mt. Carmel Cemetery, where a memorial service will be held.

Three World War II veterans - Lee Weber, Clem Dombrowski, and Frank Asparagus - will serve as grand marshals for the 59th annual event.

Other area Memorial Day events in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan include:

Adrian: Parade, 10 a.m. Monday, Maumee Street Armory to Monument Park.

Archbold: Memorial ceremony, 9:30 a.m. Monday at Ruihley Park on West Holland Street. A Boy Scout pancake breakfast will follow. Cost: free-will donation.

Bedford Township: Parade, 10 a.m. Monday from the Lambertville fire station on Monroe Road to Lambertville Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at the cemetery.

Bowling Green: Parade, 10:30 a.m. Monday from the post office on South Main Street to Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial service, 1 p.m. Monday at Wood County Memory Gardens on Liberty Hi Road.

Blissfield: 11 a.m. Monday, library to Pleasantview Cemetery.

Bloom Township: Grave decoration, 1 p.m. Monday at Weaver Cemetery in this Wood County township. A service will follow at Bloom Chapel.

Bradner: Parade, 10 a.m. Monday from American Legion Post 338 on East Crocker Street. An Air National Guard flyover will follow at 11:45 a.m.

Bryan: Memorial service, 9 a.m. Monday at Fountain Grove Cemetery.

Defiance: Memorial service, 10 a.m. Monday at Riverview Memorial Gardens on State Rt. 424.

Delta: Parade, 9:30 a.m. Monday from Memorial Hall at Main and Wood streets to Greenlawn Cemetery for a memorial service.

Dundee: 10 a.m. Monday, Ypsilanti Street to central square gazebo.

Elmore: Parade, 10:30 a.m. Monday from Woodmore High School on Fremont Street. Stops will be made at the Elmore Library for a short service and at Harrington Cemetery for the main service. A barbecue will follow at the American Legion Post at 11:30 a.m.

Findlay: Memorial service, 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Main Street Bridge. A parade will follow at 10 a.m. from Main and Front streets to Maple Grove Cemetery.

Fremont: Wreath-laying ceremony, 9 a.m. Monday at Sandusky County Courthouse. A parade will follow at 10 a.m. from West State and Front streets to Rodger Young Park on Tiffin Street.

Fostoria: Memorial ceremony, 10 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial Chapel in Fountain Cemetery on Van Buren Street.

Grand Rapids: Memorial service, 10:30 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church on Beaver Street in Grand Rapids. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Beavercreek Cemetery and 9:30 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Parade begins at 10:20 a.m. from Otsego Middle School and ends at Howard Park, where there will be a service.

Haskins: Parade, 8:45 a.m. Monday at Union Hill Cemetery

Holland/Springfield Township: Memorial ceremony, 10 a.m. Monday at Springfield Township Cemetery on Airport Highway.

Johnson's Island: Parade, 10 a.m. today. Ceremony will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Lake Township: Memorial service, 10 a.m. Monday at Lake Township Cemetery on Lemoyne Road.

Luna Pier: Memorial service, noon Monday at Memorial Park at Luna Pier and Lakewood roads.

Lyons: Parade, 1:30 p.m. Monday from State Bank and Trust Co. on East Morenci Street to Lyons Cemetery for a memorial service at 2 p.m.

Maumee: Memorial service, 8:30 a.m. Monday at Maumee Fire Station No. 1, 202 East William St., to honor fallen firefighters. A parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Maumee United Methodist Church and end at Union School with an observance at the war monument. A naval tribute will follow the ceremony on the northeast side of the Maumee-Perrysburg Bridge.

Monroe: Parade, 2 p.m. Monday from Jones Avenue to Monroe Street, ending at St. Mary's Park with a ceremony to honor all veterans, and specifically those who were lost at sea.

Napoleon: Parade, 9:15 a.m. Monday at the Central Middle School parking lot for a short waterside service. Parade leaves the lot at 10 a.m. and concludes at the Henry County War Memorial, where another service will be held.

North Baltimore: Parade, 9 a.m. Monday from the fire hall in this Wood County village to Rocky Ford Creek for a wreath ceremony and to Maplewood Cemetery for a service. Memorial service, 10:45 a.m. Monday at the veterans memorial in front of the North Baltimore American Legion Post 539. Potluck lunch will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Oak Harbor: Flag-raising ceremony, 7 a.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial Park on Finke Road. Parade, 11 a.m. from Church Street to Union Cemetery with a memorial service at the cemetery. In case of rain, a ceremony will be held at Oak Harbor Middle School.

Ottawa: Parade, 10:30 a.m. Monday starting at the corner of Main and Perry streets and ending at the Putnam County Courthouse where a memorial service will be held.

Pemberville: A chicken barbecue will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for $6 at the legion. On Monday a parade will start at 9:30 a.m. at Pemberville's town hall and end at the legion at 10 a.m. for memorial services.

Perrysburg: Parade, 10 a.m. Monday from 5th Street and Louisiana Avenue to Fort Meigs Cemetery where a ceremony will take place. The Fort Meigs State Memorial will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m. Monday to honor veterans who served at Fort Meigs during the War of 1812.

Port Clinton: Memorial service, 9 a.m. Monday at Port Clinton Yacht Club to honor those who died at sea. Parade, 10 a.m. Monday from Port Clinton Junior High School to Monroe Street Park for another service.

Put-in-Bay: Memorial service with local veterans organizations at 10 a.m. Monday at Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial.

Rossford: Parade, 1:30 p.m. today from Superior Street along State Rt. 65 to Eagle Point Road to Veterans Memorial Park, where a memorial service will be held. In case of rain, a ceremony will be held at Rossford High School.

Sandusky: Memorial service, 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church downtown. A short service will be held in the church, followed by a ceremony in Veterans Park. Parade, 9 a.m. Monday from the Ohio Veterans Home, where a short service will take place, to Oakland Cemetery for another memorial service.

Swanton: Parade, 10:30 a.m. Monday at Crestwood Elementary School. It will conclude at Swanton Park. Following the ceremony, a luncheon will be held at the Swanton American Legion.

Sylvania: Memorial service, 9 a.m. Monday at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery that includes flags placed on every veteran's grave for a "sea of flags" and music by the Northview and Southview high school bands. Parade, at 10 a.m., begins at Lourdes College and ends at Veterans Memorial Field. An F-16 flyover and the release of 50 doves are planned for the ceremony at the field.

Tiffin: Parade, 10 a.m. Monday from St. Joseph Catholic Church on Melmore Street to Monument Square for a memorial service.

Tecumseh: 9:30 a.m. Monday City Hall to Brookside Cemetery

Tontogany: Parade, 10 a.m. Monday starting at the Lybarger Grimm American Legion and heading to Tontogany Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the cemetery.

Wauseon: Parade, 9:30 a.m. Monday from fire hall to Union Cemetery for memorial service.

Whitehouse: Memorial service, 10 a.m. Monday at Whitehouse Cemetery by the Whitehouse American Legion Post 384.
