Bedford Township OKs subdivisions

6/8/2005

TEMPERANCE - The Bedford Township Board last night approved expansion of a newly constructed subdivision and the start of another, both of which together will add 100 lots to the township.

The board unanimously approved development of 51 homes in the second plat of the Village Meadows subdivision, which is being built off Temperance Road, just east of the unincorporated village.

The board also approved the first 49 lots in the Hidden Lakes subdivision off Lewis Avenue, which is being built on the site of the former Fire Creek Golf Course.

The board last night also agreed to hire a Lambertville firm to rebuild many of the sidewalks in downtown Temperance. A.L. Musch Concrete of Consear Road won the bid to rebuild about three-quarters of a mile of sidewalk this summer at $48,620 over a Toledo firm, Quinn Concrete Construction, of Packard Road, that bid about $4,600 less on the project.

Board members cited the local firm's familiarity with the project and previous volunteer work with local parks as the reasons for accepting the higher bid.

In other action, the board passed a $3.4 million general fund budget for the 2005-2006 fiscal year, which begins July 1. The coming budget contains small spending increases for law enforcement and a number of other departments over last year's $3.2 million spending plan.

The new budget also calls for withdrawing $313,325 from the township's rainy-day fund to bring it into balance in the face of continuing state revenue sharing cutbacks.
