Deal with superintendent may save Stryker $47,500

STRYKER, Ohio The Stryker Local school board expects to save at least $47,500 next school year with its interim superintendent s contract approved this week for longtime area school chief Russ Griggs compared to the offer it made earlier this month to a Cincinnati area principal.

Mr. Griggs, who has been at Pike-Delta-York Local for three years and previously was at Evergreen Local, will be paid $325 a day for a maximum of 200 days work, which would be $65,000.

He has waived insurance coverage, Eric Beavers, the district s treasurer, said.

Earlier this month, the district offered $89,600 plus benefits to Gregg Curless, a principal in the Milford Exempted Village School District, who signed a three-year contract then called the following day to say he no longer wanted the job.

The savings will help balance budgets in the district, which may spend more than it takes in next school year, Mr. Beavers said.

The board is considering eventually reducing its administration to one principal and one superintendent instead of two principals and a superintendent, he added.
