KELLEYS ISLAND The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will conduct a public hearing next week on the proposed construction of a pier that would extend 180 feet from Kelleys Island into Lake Erie.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kelleys Island Town Hall, 120 Division St.
The proposal calls for construction of a 14-foot-wide, U-shaped steel crib pier at the southwest corner of a steel crib shorewall at 1002 Lakeshore Drive.
EPA is evaluating possible water-quality affects from the project, which must receive a Section 401 water-quality certification from the state agency before proceeding. The applicant for the certification is Sally Yeager of Toledo.
