Head-on crash with semi sends woman to hospital

7/19/2005

A woman was hurt seriously last night when the car she was driving collided head-on with a tractor-trailer rig on Airport Highway near Albon Road in Springfield Township, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was flown to a hospital in Toledo, where her condition was not available, sheriff s deputies said.

The car was eastbound on Airport about 100 feet west of Albon about 9:50 p.m. when the woman apparently crossed the center line and drove into the path of a westbound semi, deputies said.

The car and the semi came to rest in the westbound lane with the car s hood smashed and partially wedged under the cabin of the semi, which sustained minimal damage.

The semi had the logo of Shared P.E.T. Imaging, a positron emission tomography company based in Canton.

Traffic was closed in both directions for about an hour.

The accident remains under investigation by the Ohio Highway Patrol.
