Maintenance manager named to Delta council

7/19/2005

DELTA - A maintenance manager at a local steel mill last night was named to Delta Village Council, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of a councilman who quit after making an ethnic slur about a Fulton County official.

Paul Fournier, who has resided in Delta for eight years and previously lived in a small town in Texas, was one of six candidates who had expressed interest in the post vacated by Harold Schondel.

The vote was unanimous to appoint Mr. Fournier to council.

He is an employee at North Star BlueScope Steel. He was not at the meeting last night.

Gary Baker, village administrator, said after the meeting that Mr. Fournier would begin his duties as a council member after being sworn in, probably during the next council session.

Mr. Schondel voluntarily left his seat on council last month after making the remark about the county sanitary engineer during a public meeting.
