Library offers videos for the vision-impaired

8/3/2005

MONROE The Monroe County Library recently added described videos to its library video collection.

The feature films in VHS format are designed for low-vision or blind people. They assist in viewing the film with a narrative describing costumes, gestures, actions, scenes, and scene changes.

Descriptive Video Service, the company that developed the concept of described videos, has been producing the videos since 1986.

The library has purchased a small collection of family classics, children s movies, and feature films, which will be available to check out for a one-week loan, the same loan period as a regular VHS or DVD.
