Work slated to continue on Waterville Bridge

8/4/2005

Painting and concrete-sealing work that has closed the Waterville Bridge nightly since Monday evening will continue through tomorrow night, and possibly into early next week, the Ohio Department of Transportation said yesterday.

Joe Rutherford, an ODOT spokesman in Bowling Green, said the state contractor working on the bridge underestimated the work to be done when predicting that it would take just three nights to complete.

The bridge is scheduled to be closed from 7 p.m. each evening until 6 a.m. the next morning. On any night that it rains or conditions are otherwise too damp, the work will be postponed.

It is a weather-sensitive operation, Mr. Rutherford said. He did not know yesterday whether any postponed work would be scheduled for Sunday night or Monday night.

The posted detour route uses State Rt. 65 or U.S. 24 to U.S. 20, the Fort Meigs Memorial Bridge between Maumee and Perrysburg.

Motorists travelling to or from points for which the State Rt. 578 bridge at Grand Rapids, Ohio, might make more sense are advised to use that crossing.
