Hardin County village faces fiscal emergency

8/10/2005

ALGER, Ohio The state auditor s office yesterday declared this Hardin County village to be in a state of fiscal emergency.

State Auditor Betty Montgomery said the declaration paves the way for the creation of a state-appointed committee that will develop a financial recovery plan for Alger, a village of 888 people just south of Ada.

A fiscal analysis of the village s finances done at the village s request showed the village had deficit fund balances of $170,178 as of April 30 and a treasury deficit of $170,178 as of April 30. The review commission will be charged with creating a plan to eliminate the fiscal emergency conditions, balance the budget, and avoid future deficits.

No one was available at the Alger village office to comment on the report.
