Lucas County OKs its part of Berkey s water deal

8/10/2005

Berkey is just a step away from getting water from the city of Toledo.

Lucas County commissioners yesterday approved their portion of the agreement that would supply city water to the small village on the western edge of the county.

Toledo City Council heard the first reading of the agreement at its meeting yesterday. Village officials approved the agreement in late June.

As part of the agreement, Toledo would pay about $2.6 million to install a waterline, a 3 -mile extension from the edge of Sylvania Township, to provide water to 121 homes and a handful of businesses.

Berkey residents would pay back the cost of the construction over 30 years at an average cost of $14,900 per household. In addition, the residents will pay for the water they use. Design and construction is expected to take 18 months to two years.
