Pickup-backhoe collision closes Bancroft Street

9/2/2005

A pickup and a backhoe collided, closing Bancroft Street in both directions for about two hours during yesterday's morning rush hour.

The truck, occupied by two people, was eastbound in the 1400 block of West Bancroft Street about 7:50 a.m. when it hit a backhoe in the curb lane, police said. The pickup flipped and landed on its top.

They said the backhoe, owned by Willcrest Concrete Contractors, 308 Wamba Ave., was setting up to do sidewalk repair on the south side of the street. Police said the backhoe operator was not hurt.

The truck's occupants, whose names were unavailable, were taken to Toledo Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries. The road reopened about 9:40 a.m.
