YWCA seeks donations after fire strikes shelter

9/2/2005

Donations of microwaves, prepared food, boxed or canned food that is microwavable, and nonrefrigerated items such as fruits and vegetables are being sought for the women and children affected by a fire Monday at the YWCA downtown.

Items will be collected for two weeks. They may be dropped off at the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women at Tucker Hall at the University of Toledo s main campus on Bancroft Street.

More than 50 women and children had to be moved from the YWCA s emergency battered women s shelter to a safe site after a suspicious fire caused at least $50,000 damage to the building, 1018 Jefferson Ave.

The YWCA has set up an emergency crisis line at 419-241-7273 for women who need its services.
