An East Toledo man died yesterday after the motorcycle he was riding collided with the right rear side of a sport utility vehicle on Seaman Street near Heffner Street, authorities said.

Jason Welch, 32, of 1402 Mott Ave., died in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center about 30 minutes after the 10 a.m. accident.

Neither the driver of the SUV, Tracy Adams, 29, of Homestead Avenue, nor her unidentified passenger was hurt, police said.

Ms. Adams was on her way to work when she stopped northbound on Heffner at Seaman for a stop sign.

She looked left and right, where she saw Mr. Welch riding west on Seaman about 1,000 feet away, police said.

Ms. Adams pulled out and, before she completed her turn to drive west on Seaman, Mr. Welch collided with her SUV with a glancing blow, Sgt. Paul Kerschbaum said.

Mr. Welch lost control, went to the right between a guy wire and phone post, hit the guy wire, and slid 150 to 200 feet into a fence. Mr. Welch was pinned under the fence and had to be extricated by firefighters.

Police said Mr. Welch was not wearing a helmet. Mr. Welch had a suspended driver's license and did not have a motorcycle endorsement, Officer Malone said.

He said Mr. Welch was supposed to be taking the motorcycle, which was not registered to him, home to work on it. Witnesses told police Mr. Welch was driving at a high rate of speed.
