Input sought on roads with high crash rates

9/29/2005

Ohio officials are seeking online public comments about traffic safety on seven routes as they continue to examine roads with above-average crash rates.

Now under scrutiny are State Rt. 49, which runs along Ohio's western edge through Williams and Paulding continuing south to Greenville before veering southeast toward Dayton; and State Rt. 37, which goes southeast from Forest, Ohio, to Delaware and beyond.

Other targeted roads are State Rt. 73 in southwest Ohio and State Rts. 46, 60, 93, and 193 in the eastern part of the state.

Between 1999 and 2003, 177 people have died in accidents along those seven routes.

Officials received numerous comments during seven recent public meetings across Ohio, and continue to welcome observations and questions at a state-managed Web site, www.corridorsafety.ohio.gov.
