Driver stricken; car hits home, garage in South Toledo

A motorist s car slammed into a garage yesterday after he suffered a stroke while driving in South Toledo, police said.

Harry Richardson, 79, of Villa Drive, was in critical condition in Medical University of Ohio Medical Center.

Mr. Richardson was driving south on Green Valley Drive about 8 a.m. and stopped for a stop sign at Stengel Avenue. He suffered a stroke and his foot hit the gas pedal. His car took off, jumped a curb, entered a side yard, and hit the back of a garage at 1377 Kirk St., Officer Rob Malone said.

Officer Malone said the force of the crash knocked the garage off its foundation, dislodging sections of the attached house.

Leila and Crystal Simas, who rent the house, were inside but were not hurt, the officer said.
