EPA loans Hicksville $6.8M to replace plant

HICKSVILLE, Ohio The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has approved a $6.8 million low-interest loan to help the Defiance County village of Hicksville replace its wastewater treatment plant.

The 20-year financing from the state Water Pollution Control Loan Fund will save Hicksville more than $3.6 million in interest payments, the EPA said. The loan will be used for the first phase of a two-part upgrade of the plant, which has a daily capacity of 950,000 gallons.

Storm water flowing into the village s combined sewer system sometimes exceeds the plant s capacity, causing sewer overflows.

The project s first phase, expected to take 18 months, will enable the plant to handle its designed daily capacity of more than 2.1 million gallons.
