Lima electric firm to pay $50,000 for violations

10/14/2005

LIMA, Ohio - Marathon Electric Manufacturing Corp. has agreed to pay a $50,000 fine to settle violations related to air emissions and record-keeping at the company's facility at 200 East Chapman Rd., the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said yesterday.

The company was cited for excessive smog-forming volatile organic compound releases and record lapses between 2001 and 2003. The issues have been corrected, the agency said.

Some $10,000 of the fine will go to the Ohio EPA's Clean Diesel School Bus Fund. The rest will be split equally between a state environmental education fund and state programs designed to help curb air pollution, the EPA said.
