Cedar Point removing 23-year-old water ride

10/15/2005

SANDUSKY Cedar Point plans to remove the White Water Landing thrill ride after 23 years to make room for future expansion, the park has announced.

The ride, which simulates a canoe ride through a river and includes a 50-foot waterfall, will operate for the last time Oct. 30, Cedar Point s final day of the 2005 season.

More than 28 million people have ridden White Water Landing since it was built in 1982. The ride s popularity has dropped in recent years, Bryan Edwards, a Cedar Point spokesman, said.

There are no immediate plans for the space. We might have something better to put in the area, Mr. Edwards said.

The amusement park announced earlier this year that it is trying to sell Demon Drop a 131-foot-tall ride that drops riders at speeds up to 55 mph.
