Officials open 1.6-mile section of inland trail

FREMONT City, county, and state officials gathered Wednesday to formally open a 1.6-mile section of the North Coast Inland Trail in Fremont.

The new section ties into an existing part of the trail between Fremont and Clyde. Fremont Mayor Terry Overmyer said the trail will provide a safe link between several of the city parks recreational facilities for bikers, joggers, and others.

The trail includes the northernmost crossing of the Sandusky River.

State transportation funds paid $1 million of the project s $1.8 million cost. The remainder was covered by the city, including a $75,000 donation from the Fremont Rotary Club.
