3 hurt when 1 car, then another crash into truck

OAK HARBOR, Ohio A 19-year-old Sandusky woman was seriously hurt late Saturday night on State Rt. 163 in Ottawa County just west of Oak Harbor.

Ashley R. Goebel was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center after her car struck a tractor-trailer backing into a private drive off State Rt. 163, the Ohio Highway Patrol said. She remained in serious condition yesterday.

Ms. Goebel was eastbound on State Rt. 163 in Salem Township at about 11 p.m. when she hit the trailer being driven by Thomas L. Goetz, 55, of the Oak Harbor area. About a minute later, another eastbound car driven by Helen J. Parcels, 76, from the Sandusky area, also hit the trailer.

Ms. Goebel s passenger, Benjamin D. Eldred, 24, of Sandusky, was flown to St. Vincent s as well but was discharged yesterday. Both cars were heavily damaged in the front, trapping both drivers and Mr. Eldred.

The crash remained under investigation yesterday.
