BRITTON, Mich. - A teenager who tried to pass a vehicle on the right on a two-lane road Saturday crashed into a sport utility vehicle, injuring that driver, herself, and passengers in both vehicles.

Jennifer Martin, 17, was eastbound on M-50 in northeast Lenawee County about 8:10 p.m. when she passed the vehicle, hit the shoulder of the road, and lost control of her car, the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office said.

The car went into a ditch, then the intersection of M-50 and Palmer Highway, where the SUV, driven north on Palmer by Douglas Mayher, was stopped, waiting to make a turn. Ms. Martin's car hit the vehicle on the driver's side and it tipped over upon impact.

Mr. Mayher, 29, and Ms. Martin were flown to the University of Michigan Medical Center, where they were both in good condition last night.

Mr. Mayher's passengers - his wife, Tammy, also 29, and Tyler Conners, 9 - were taken to Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh, Mich. Two of Ms. Martin's passengers, Chelsey Houghton, 16, and Cody Phifer, 16, were taken to Herrick as well. Their conditions were not available. A third passenger, Kathryn Adams, 16, was not injured. All are from Lenawee County.
