SANDUSKY - A suburban Cleveland man was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to control after the sport utility vehicle he was driving struck a ditch and rolled over, seriously injuring his passenger Saturday night.

Ryan P. Kraft, 30, of Parma was driving northeast on State Rt. 101, just north of Bardshar Road, headed to Sandusky to take his passenger home when he lost control of the vehicle at about 10 p.m., troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol's Sandusky post said.

The vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, overturned, and came to rest on its top, sustaining substantial front-end damage, troopers said.

Mr. Kraft was not injured, but his passenger, Jeffrey L. Swanson, 49, of Sandusky, was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he remained in serious condition yesterday.
