OTTAWA, Ohio The state of Ohio has awarded the village of Ottawa two low-interest loans totaling more than $2.3 million to help fund sewer and water-line projects along Pohl Road.

A $1.14 million loan from the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund will help finance installation of a sanitary sewer system that will serve about 90 connections, including some outside the village, according to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. The sewer project will correct water quality violations caused by failing septic systems in the Pohl Road area.

Ottawa also is receiving a $1.25 million loan from the Water Supply Revolving Loan Account that will be used toward construction of a water line to serve 69 homes in that same area. The sewer project will serve residents who live in the village and just outside town; while the water line will provide service only to village residents.

The pair of 20-year loans will save the village about $605,500 in interest costs, according to EPA.
