Two major thoroughfares in the area were closed to traffic last night because of crashes - U.S. 24 at Dutch Road in Waterville Township and northbound I-75 at the Maumee River.

A Dodge pickup traveling westbound on U.S. 24 was turning south at Dutch about 6:30 p.m. when it was struck by a Honda Civic eastbound on U.S. 24, township police said.

Both vehicles had a single occupant, with the pickup's driver taken to St. Luke's Hospital, and the car's driver, a teenager, taken to the Medical University of Ohio Medical Center.

Their names and conditions were not available last night.

The road was shut down for about two hours, police said.

About 8 p.m., northbound I-75 was closed at Wales Road after a car and a tractor-trailer rig collided and the semi jackknifed on the Michael V. DiSalle bridge over the Maumee River, authorities said.

Two people involved in the accident were taken to the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. Their names and conditions also were not available last night.

A third accident, about an hour later, occurred on the southbound I-75 entrance ramp at Berdan Avenue. The ramp was closed after a pickup rolled over, police said.
