Perrysburg to hear views on garbage proposal

11/1/2005

A public meeting will be held Nov. 9 on a proposal being considered by Perrysburg City Council to eliminate the city s dumpster collection services.

The draft ordinance under consideration states that the owners of commercial buildings, including apartment buildings with more than four apartments, as well as mobile home parks will have to arrange for collection and disposal of refuse at least once a week by a private firm.

No cost figures were available last night.

Subsidized housing is largely excluded.

Property owners, in the past, have expressed concerns with the proposed measure, noting that they already pay a levy as well as property taxes and that their tenants are paying the city s income tax.

Their recommendations included allowing a tax relief for landlords, instituting an option of can pickup, and grandfathering existing customers.

Council expects to hold three readings of the proposal, tentatively set for Nov. 15, Dec. 6, and Dec. 20.
