Fremont bicyclist hit by train despite gates

FREMONT A Fremont man was hurt seriously yesterday when, police said, he rode his bicycle into the path of a train at the State Street crossing at the Sandusky River bridge.

William Harmon, 36, was taken to Fremont Memorial Hospital, then flown to Medical University of Ohio Medical Center, where he was in serious condition yesterday.

Police said Mr. Harmon rode his bike around the lowered crossing gates and was struck by a southbound Norfolk Southern train about 1:30 a.m.
