MS Society singles out Sarantou, institutions

Community leaders, volunteers, and organizations were honored yesterday at the 2005 annual meeting of the Northwest Ohio chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and its board of directors at the Holiday Inn French Quarter in Perrysburg Township.

Those honored included Toledo Councilman George Sarantou, Mercy Health Partners, Medical Mutual of Ohio, and Fifth Third Bank.

Mr. Sarantou was honored for his disability advocacy within Toledo city government. The organizations were recognized for their consistent involvement with the society.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable neurological disease that can cause blurred vision, loss of balance, poor coordination, slurred speech, tremors, numbness, extreme fatigue, problems with memory and concentration, paralysis, and blindness.

The society s northwest Ohio chapter serves more than 3,000 people.
