Motorcyclist hurt in collision with van on Rt. 249

HICKSVILLE, Ohio - A 59-year-old Hicksville man was hurt seriously yesterday when his motorcycle collided with a van on State Rt. 249 in Defiance County north of here, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Donald Vanscoder was taken in critical condition by medical helicopter to Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., troopers at the patrol's Defiance post said.

A hospital spokesman said she didn't have a patient by that name. Mr. Vanscoder was riding west on Route 249 just west of Rosedale Road when a van being driven east on Route 249 by Greg Bany, 42, of Edgerton, Ohio, collided with his bike. Mr. Bany was turning into a private drive when the collision with the motorcycle occurred, troopers said.

The accident is under investigation. Mr. Bany was wearing his seat belt and was not hurt. Mr. Vanscoder was not wearing a helmet, troopers said.
