Archbold: $8M addition set for Sauder inn

11/9/2005

ARCHBOLD - Construction is to get under way this month on an $8 million expansion project at Sauder Heritage Inn, where 64 guest rooms will be added, nearly tripling the capacity of the inn that was built nearly 11 years ago.

The project's focal point will take root around a fake giant oak - a tree that will be designed and built in Carlsbad, Calif. The "Great Oak Tree," standing 25-feet tall with a 35-foot canopy and a trunk 4 feet in diameter, will represent the majestic oak trees found throughout northwest Ohio. It will be brought to Ohio in sections and installed onsite when the expansion work is nearly finished. Guests can dine, relax, read, or play games under the tree.

Also to be added: an indoor pool with natural rock features, a waterfall, and a hot tub. Plans call for an expanded exercise room and a new game room near the pool area.

The inn's additional space will allow it to accommodate the many quilters, rug hookers, family vacationers, conference and group tour participants, and others interested in staying overnight at the Sauder complex in the village of Archbold.
