Perrysburg Township: Proposal for condos on Simmons Road draws little criticism

A condominium-style development in Perrysburg Township on Simmons Road would include 28 living units in seven buildings.

Some residents in the nearby Belmont Meadows subdivision said they're "not all that crazy" about the development, but their main concern is whether the buffer between Belmont and the Ohio Turnpike would be torn down.

"The issue is someone coming in and tearing down a whole bunch of trees and opening up our subdivision to the noise of the turnpike," said John Clark of Belmont Meadows Lane.

Developer MDM Ltd. of Bowling Green and Feller Finch & Associates of Maumee are asking that 7.3 acres on the west side of Simmons Road, about a quarter mile south of Ford Road, be rezoned from residential to planned unit development-residential, said Grant Garn, the township's zoning inspector.

He said Earnest C. Conner requested that his property, 29301 Simmons, be rezoned to allow for a condominium-style devel-opment for the site that would include the 28 units in seven buildings.

The developers have submitted a preliminary footprint for what they're calling Belmont Place. The subdivision would be located just south of the Belmont Meadows subdivision and across the street from the Belmont Country Club.

Mr. Clark said he thinks the development will be better than the two chicken coops occupying the property.

Another resident, Dana Sager, 10310 Belmont Meadows, said she was not opposed to the subdivision, though she acknowledged that traffic will most likely increase.

"I will miss the trees to block the sound from the turnpike, but other than that, I'm for it," she said.

Perrysburg Township residents will get a chance to comment on the proposed subdivision during a public hearing at 6 p.m. during the township's zoning commission meeting in its meeting hall, 26609 Lime City Rd. Commissioners will hear residents' opinions before voting to make a recommendation to the Perrsyburg Township Trustees for further consideration.

The Wood County Planning Commission considered the housing subdivision plans on Nov. 1. But because the Perrysburg Township Fire Department raised some objections and requested that the developer revise the plans, the planning commission denied the request until the updated plans are approved by the township.

The planning commission intends to next look at the plans at its next meeting on Dec. 6.
