BOWLING GREEN - City officials say they will review an offer by the Ohio Army National Guard to sell its former armory on East Wooster Street for $280,000.
By law, the Adjutant General's Department must first offer such property for sale at its appraised value to the political subdivision in which it is located.
The city has 60 days to respond and, after that, the property will be offered to the Wood County commissioners at the same price.
The National Guard moved out of the old brick building this summer to the new Bowling Green Training and Community Center at West Newton and Haskins roads.
Municipal Administrator John Fawcett said he has asked department heads to submit ideas of how they might use the building if the city purchased it, and that the information will be forwarded to city council.
Because of cramped conditions at City Hall, a committee has been meeting for nearly two years to explore possible sites and funding sources for a new city office building.
Mr. Fawcett said the committee briefly considered the armory property.
It was all but eliminated as an option because it was not large enough for offices and adjacent parking.
