Bedford officials prepare plans for township hall

TEMPERANCE - Bedford Township officials will present a plan for a new township hall at their meeting next month.

Trustees Dennis Steinman and Larry O'Dell said last night they'll be ready Jan. 3 to present a plan to build a two-story, 18,000-square-foot township hall behind the current facility on Jackman Road.

Township board members and staffers have been working for months on plans to upgrade their facility, which was built in 1966 and has serious maintenance and space problems.

Initially, board members considered moving the township hall, but the plan was scrapped when they determined a new building could be built on their own land for about the same price.

"The builders and architects both think [a two-story design] will give us more space for the dollar," Mr. O'Dell said. "It's not a finished project by any means, but it's a new design that might do the job for us."

Mr. O'Dell said the board also will be presented with a number of financing options in hopes that construction could begin by mid-2006.
