Alcohol-free New Year's Eve events offered in Sylvania

First Light Sylvania, a new event this year sponsored by city and Sylvania Township organizations, is alcohol-free, and takes place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Eddie Boggs, an entertainer long active in the area, is producing the event he hopes will become an annual tradition.

Admission is by wristbands, available in advance at Charlie's Ice Cream & Edibles, Sautter's Food Center, and Schlotzsky's Deli, as well as at the event.

Some highlights:

●6:30 p.m.: Opening ceremony at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5373 South Main St., with a magic act and ensemble from Lourdes College.

●7 p.m.: St. Joseph School will have a clown, children's sing-along, introduction to ballet, and creative art stations.

●7:20 to 9:20 p.m.: Kenney & Niehaus Law Building, 5470 South Main St., hosts light jazz, followed by country and soft rock from 9:20 until 10 p.m. Sylvania Historic Village, 5717 North Main St., hosts continuous country and bluegrass music at the barn.

●6:30 to 10 p.m.: Dance for junior high school students at the Jewish Community Center and YMCA, 6465 Sylvania Ave.; Dance for high school students at the Tam O'Shanter sports complex, 7060 Sylvania Ave.
