EPA issues advisories for 17 Ohio water bodies

1/8/2006

LIMA, Ohio Schoonover Lake in Allen County and Killdeer Pond No. 30 in Wyandot County are among 17 bodies of water in Ohio to have tighter fish consumption advisories placed upon them for 2006.

All but five are the result of excessive mercury fallout from the sky.

Largemouth bass caught in Schoonover Lake and Killdeer Pond No. 30 should not be eaten more than once a month, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said.

Various other advisories remain in effect for fish caught in other bodies of water, including Lake Erie.

The Ohio EPA said its general recommendation of limiting consumption to no more than one meal a week of any type of fish caught in Ohio waters remains in effect.

The advisories are based on 2004 results of fish tissue sampling.
