1/23/2006

FINDLAY Organizers of the city s annual communal book-reading project have chosen Harper Lee s 1960 Pulitzer Prize winner, To Kill a Mockingbird, for this year s Community Read.

For children, The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson was selected. HancockReads officials said both books introduce themes of acceptance and racial differences.

Among activities planned in conjunction with the book will be appearances by actress Mary Badham, who played Scout in the film version of the book, and literary expert Claudia Durst Johnson, a friend of the author who has written two books about To Kill a Mockingbird. The women will speak at 2 p.m. March 25 at First Presbyterian Church in Findlay.

A mock trial based on the screenplay from the book will be held at 7 p.m. March 23 at the Hancock County courthouse, and the Oscar-winning 1962 film with Gregory Peck will be shown at 2 p.m. March 4 at a site to be announced.
