ADRIAN - Two people were taken to the hospital after their minivan collided with a train yesterday morning on Carleton Road, east of M-52 in Madison Township, south of here.

Lenawee County sheriff's Sgt. Daniel Rudd said the van was traveling westbound on Carleton Road about 9:15 a.m. when the accident with the Canadian Pacific train occurred, but he did not have any additional details.

He said both of the van's occupants were taken to Bixby Medical Center in Adrian with what he believed were injuries that were not life-threatening. Sergeant Rudd said he did not know the names of the van's occupants.

The crash caused the train to derail, but no railcars were damaged. He said some cars contained paint, but there were no ruptures or spillage.

He said the Michigan State Police officers were handling the investigation.
