Ronald Shields, the chairman of the theater and film department at Bowling Green State University, has recieved the Distinguished Service award from the theater division of the National Communication Association.

Professor Shields has been a member of the theater division's executive committtee for several years and has served as its chairman.

His work as a mentor and a scholar was also cited in the award.

John Nygard of Perrysburg, an 11th-grade student at St. John's Jesuit High School, will travel to Killarney, Ireland, to compete in the all-Ireland dance competition this month.

He also is scheduled to compete in Belfast in April at the World Championship of the Irish dance contest.

John placed third in his age group in the midwest region Irish dance championship over Thanksgiving last year, earning the chance to compete in Ireland.

He has been a student at the Heinzman School of Irish Dance for eight years.

Students at Archbold High School and Findlay High School competed in Columbus in the We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution state competition on Jan. 27.

The winning team, Findlay High School, will represent Ohio at the national competition in Washington in April.
