BLOOMDALE

  • Elmwood Elementary will accept preschool applications for the 2006-07 school year beginning Wednesday. Registration packets, which are available on the district's Web site and in the elementary school's office, must be returned directly to the school office or postmarked by March 31.

    BLUFFTON

  • Daniel Boyarin, professor at the University of California, Berkeley, will present "Judaism as a Free Church: Yoder, Hauerwas, and the Interaction of Religious Communities" at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Yoder Recital Hall at Bluffton University. The event is free and open to the public.

  • The Bluffton University Women's Issue Circle will present its first women's showcase titled "Empowering Women through the Arts" from 6 to 10 p.m. tomorrow at Marbeck Center on campus. The showcase is an opportunity for women on campus and in the community to be recognized for their work as artists, musicians, performers, and writers.

  • Two Protestant and two Catholic speakers who have gone through the Spirit of Enniskillen Trust program will present "The Spirit of Enniskillen: Dialoguing in Northern Ireland's Divided Society" at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Yoder Recital Hall at Bluffton University. The presentation is free to the public.

  • Floyd C. Dickman, children's literature specialist, will present "Celebrating Cultural Diversity through Children's Literature" at 2 and 4 p.m. Thursday in the Kreider Room of Marbeck Center at Bluffton University. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP to lionlamb@bluffton.edu.

    BOWLING GREEN

  • Anthony P. Mannarino, chairman of the psychiatry department and director of the Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, will speak on trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy at the Douglas G. Ullman Conference on Children's Mental Health tomorrow at Stone Ridge Golf Club. Clinical and social psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, registered nurses, probation officers, pediatricians, and other interested persons are welcome to attend.   • An antique show to benefit the Defiance County Humane Society will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the United Autoworkers Local 211 union hall, 2120 Baltimore St. "The Lost Art of Chair Cane Weaving" will be demonstrated. Admission is $2.

    FINDLAY

  • A Chubby Cupcake fund-raiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow on Owens Community College's Findlay-area campus to assist New Orleans Area Community College's educational needs.

  • A free college planning workshop will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library community room.

  • Terry Barrett, professor of art education at Ohio State University, will present "Visual Art and Meaning" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Findlay's Pfeiffer Lecture Hall inside the Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion. Mr. Barrett is an author and expert on teaching art criticism. The lecture is free and open to the public.

  • Maple Sugarin' Day will be hosted by the Hancock Park District at noon Saturday at Litzenberg Memorial Woods on U.S. 224 west of Findlay. Friends of the Parks will offer sweet treats from noon to 3 p.m. in the Activity Barn. For more information, contact the park district.

  • Adam Sakel, an education specialist at Fort Meigs State Park in Perrysburg, will discuss "A Soldier in the War of 1812" at 10 a.m. today in the Maumee Library Auditorium, 501 River Rd. The lecture is part of a series sponsored by the Wolcott House Museum Guild and Maumee branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.

    PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP

  • A Chubby Cupcake fund-raiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow on Owens Community College's Toledo-area campus to assist New Orleans Area Community College's educational needs.

  • "Women Returning to Teaching" is the name of a seminar to be sponsored by Toledo Area Chapter of Pi Lambda Theta from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Ability Center of Northwest Ohio, 5606 Monroe St.

  • Joe Tafelski, executive director of Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, will discuss "Incredible India and Africa - Incredible Rotary" when the Rotary Club of Toledo has its weekly luncheon meeting at noon today at Zenobia Shrine, 1511 Madison Ave.

  • The Uptown Association will hold its 2006 annual meeting at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Toledo Club, Madison Avenue and 14th St.

  • The Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission will conduct a public forum from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Heatherdowns branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 3225 Glanzman Rd. Information gathered at the meeting will be used to prepare the agency's 2007 state plan.

  • Don Bottles, commander of basic police academies at Owens Community College who recently returned from training Iraqi police, will discuss "How We Trained Iraqis to Become Policemen" when American Legion Toledo Post 335 has its regular weekly luncheon meeting at noon Friday at the Toledo Club, Madison Avenue and 14th Street.
