TPS security to probe attack on bus in Mich.

A Toledo Public Schools official yesterday said the district's security team will visit a Michigan city to investigate an attack on a school bus after a basketball game there Saturday.

Dan Burns, chief business manager for TPS, said his team will work with River Rouge, Mich., police and conduct its own investigation into what happened when three side windows of a school bus were shattered and a front window damaged.

The bus was carrying the Woodward High School boys basketball team after a game against River Rouge High when the bus was attacked. A spokesman for River Rouge police said he had no information on the incident yesterday.

"We plan to send our own security team there, work with River Rouge police and school officials there, and ascertain what happened," Mr. Burns said.

The bus driver called Joe Kahl, district transportation director, about 9:30 p.m. to report the incident. River Rouge is about 50 miles northeast of Toledo.

Mr. Burns said he met the bus at Woodward about 11 p.m. Saturday and saw three windows on the right side of the bus had been knocked out. He said varsity boys coach Corey Tucker suffered a concussion and was treated at the scene in River Rouge. He said one other player reported being hit by glass but was not hurt seriously.

River Rouge won the game.
