A Toledo teenager was hurt seriously yesterday when she was hit by a car after leaving Waite High School - the second time this school year that she has been hit by a vehicle on Front Street, police said.

Nicole McFate, 16, was admitted to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in serious condition, a hospital spokesman said.

Miss McFate tried to cross Front near Morrison Drive about 3:30 p.m. when she was hit by a northbound car driven by Jamie Rogers, 20, of North Toledo. Ms. Rogers, who wasn't hurt, told police she saw the girl step off the sidewalk 15 feet in front of her and tried to avoid hitting her.

Miss McFate was cited for crossing other than in a crosswalk, police said.

On Sept. 20, Miss McFate and Kristina Collins, 18, were hit by a pickup being driven south on Front by Daniel Smoot, 21, of East Toledo. The girls were crossing Front near the same intersection at the same time of day, according to a traffic report.
