Sun Oil reports leak at refinery in Oregon

3/25/2006

An undetermined amount of solvent used to blend gasoline leaked last night at the Sun Oil refinery in Oregon, a company spokesman said.

Shortly before 7 p.m., naphtha began leaking from pipes at the plant at 1819 Woodville Rd., the spokesman said.

The line was shut off, the substance was contained, and employees vacuumed it up for disposal. It was not known what caused the leak.

Oregon authorities received several calls about an odor in the area, which the Sun spokesman said was exhaust from the vacuuming and not the chemical itself.
