Fostoria council cuts pay for some new employees

FOSTORIA Newly hired nonunion municipal employees will no longer be given longevity pay as part of a cost-cutting move by City Council.

The city pays 2 percent of base pay as a bonus for employees with more than six years of service, 4 percent for those with 11 years, 6 percent for 16 years, and 8 percent for more than 20 years.

Council, which approved the measure Tuesday night, said it should save $275,000 annually, although officials warned the change will only be realized after 10 years. The change will not affect current employees.
