David Shipko of Sylvania has been selected to attend the United States Air Force Academy's summer seminar program scheduled near Colorado Springs, Col. Selection is competitive and based on academics, athletic abilities, leadership skills, and a desire for a career in the Air Force.

The seminar is a recruiting program that combines academic workshops and some military and physical-training events.

Ashley Bartman, a sophomore at Anthony Wayne High School, will take part in Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp's annual European tour this summer.

She will be part of the 42-member ballet ensemble, one of six performing groups from the camp that will perform in two or more European countries in June and July. The European tour is organized by Blue Lake's International Exchange Program.

Sharon Libby of Bowling Green, assistant chairman of teacher education at Owens Community College and staff mentor at the campus child-care centers, will travel May 5 to Reggio Emilia, Italy, for a weeklong study forum of the Reggio Emilia philosophy of education. She will visit several Reggio schools, including preschools and at least one infant-toddler center.

Ms. Libby has a master's degree in child development from Bowling Green State University and has been at OCC for over 13 years.

Ken Frisch of Bowling Green, a certified fund-raising executive, has been named director of development for Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Mr. Frisch was previously director of capital campaign for Hospice.

He has 25 years of fund-raising experience and worked for Bowling Green State University and Ohio University prior to going to Hospice in 2003.

●Becky Minger of Sylvania has won the 2006 Miss Greater Dayton beauty pageant and will compete in July in Mansfield, Ohio, for the title of Miss Ohio. Miss Minger won the individual-interview and casual-wear segments in the Dayton pageant.

Adam Malcom, an aerospace engineering graduate student at the University of Virginia, won the $5,000 grand prize in the first innovations in life jacket design competition held by the U.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and the Personal Flotation Device Manufacturers Association. The award was presented during ceremonies at the Miami boat show in February.

Mr. Malcom is a mechanical engineering graduate of the University of Toledo and a graduate of Sylvania Northview High School.

Six students in Clay High School's environmental and agricultural technologies program won awards at the FFA Wildlife Management career development event April 1 in Columbus.

Members of the first place Wildlife Management team from the Oregon-Clay FFA who won individual awards are Meredith Gilbert, first place; Joe St. John, second; Adam Degg, third; Eric Pirolli, fourth; Josh Heintschel, sixth, and Brett Socie, seventh.

Also competing on the first place team were Todd Scharff and Jacob Pirolli.

The team will now represent Ohio in the Eastern U.S. regional competition in Massachusetts.
