Bellevue finalizes deal to buy Erie County water

4/28/2006

BELLEVUE, Ohio The city of Bellevue has completed a long-awaited deal with Erie County to buy water that will supplement the city s reservoirs in times of drought.

The agreement calls for Bellevue to buy a minimum of 150,000 cubic feet of water a day at a cost of $2.59 per 100 cubic feet.

Mayor David Kile said the alternative supply will enable the city to shut down its treatment plant for extended maintenance and meet demand during the summer. The city has constructed water towers on the east and west sides of Bellevue to ensure adequate pressure.

Erie County, which has a water main extending near the city limits, had been negotiating with Bellevue since last year.
