U.S. 12 repairs to run through November

5/6/2006

BROOKLYN, Mich. - Construction has begun on a $5 million rehabilitation project on U.S. 12 in northwestern Lenawee County, with work scheduled in stages to minimize traffic disruption, the Michigan Department of Transportation announced yesterday.

Pavement milling and resurfacing, minor widening, curb and drainage repairs, and intersection improvements at Brooklyn Highway and Round Lake Road will require flag zones in the work area until construction is finished in November, officials said.

But no lane closings will be allowed on holiday weekends or during the days before and after three major races at Michigan International Speedway.

No roadwork will begin between Round Lake Road and a point east of Miller Highway until after the third race weekend in mid-August.

Construction is starting between U.S. 127 and Round Lake. Flag zones may be up to two miles in length, with only one such zone allowed at any given time. That phase is to be completed by 7 a.m. June 14, in time for all lanes to be open during the NASCAR 3M Performance 400 and associated races on June 17-18.

Work will begin on June 20 at the east end of the work area, between Miller Highway and M-50, and that construction is scheduled for completion on Aug. 16 before the NASCAR GFS Marketplace 400 weekend, Aug. 19-20.
