California man injured in crash on turnpike

CLYDE, Ohio A Tarzana, Calif., man was hurt seriously yesterday when his car hit a light pole in the Erie Islands service plaza on the Ohio Turnpike, east of State Rt. 412 north of here, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Gene Sokol, 42, was flown to the Medical University of Ohio Medical Center. A hospital spokesman said she had no information on a patient by that name.

Mr. Sokol was leaving the main car parking area at the plaza to head west on the turnpike about 12:45 p.m. when his car hit the pole. He was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Corvette with an Illinois registration, troopers said.

The accident remained under investigation yesterday.
