Appointments available to recycle electronic gear

5/9/2006

The Lucas County Solid Waste Management District recently expanded its recycling program to include computers and other electronic gear.

As of Friday, residents can make appointments to drop off items and will be charged a fee, but the county guarantees the items will be recycled properly. The cost for the collection of computers, computer equipment, and other electronics, including microwave ovens and MP3 players, will range from no fee for cell phones to $10 for some televisions.

Solid waste management officials said the fee will help the county have the equipment recycled and, in some cases, refurbished. The fee also will give residents access to year-round recycling and offer peace of mind that the computers and data won t end up in the wrong hands.
