Library branch closes as new owner takes over

SOUTH ROCKWOOD, Mich. The South Rockwood branch of the Monroe County Library System is closing immediately while the building s new owner begins renovation work, director Nancy Colpaert said yesterday.

The building is owned by Regina Villemure. No deadline for the work was announced, but library patrons were told items they have requested will be available at the Newport branch library. Public-access computers were also moved to Newport.

The library building once housed a fire station, and part of it remained vacant until its recent sale by Berlin Charter Township. Renovation work has begun on the second floor.
