41 to lose jobs in closing of Waldron plant

5/12/2006

WALDRON, Mich. Owners of a Waldron manufacturing plant said they will close the plant this summer, costing the community 41 jobs.

Mestek Inc. officials cited consolidation and poor volume at its Waldron facility as reasons for the shutdown. The Waldron plant produces smoke and fire damper and control systems for commercial and industrial applications.

The plant opened as Waldron Industries in 1959. Mestek, of Westfield, Mass., bought the facility in 1989.

Mestek officials said the plant will be closed by midsummer, putting 34 production and seven office employees out of work.
