Utility truck rams home at intersection

5/12/2006

NEY, Ohio - A home at the T-intersection of State Rts. 15 and 249 that has been struck by vehicles from those roads several times in recent years was hit again yesterday, this time on its attached garage by a Toledo Edison utility truck.

The truck, driven by Orlando Garza, 54, of Stryker, Ohio, was traveling southeast on State Rt. 15 at 9:10 a.m. when it went off the south side of State Rt. 249 and struck a guide wire, traffic sign, and concrete barricade, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol's Defiance post.

The truck then went airborne and landed in the private driveway, according to the patrol, striking the garage at 490 West Main St., which is State Rt. 15 in the Defiance County village of Ney.

Mr. Garza, who was treated at Community Hospitals of Williams County, Bryan, was cited for failure to control. Both state routes were closed for about two hours.
